History
Two decades of brand building, distilled into one compelling story, this is our deadgood journey.
Our founders, Dan Ziglam & Elliot Brook started Deadgood in Newcastle upon Tyne, fresh out of university with nothing more than a business plan written on the back of a beer mat.
2004
Soon after, they joined the 'Designers in Residence' programme at Northumbria University and developed a number of retail accessories, including their iconic 'UK Mirror'.
2005
Inspired by the idea of collaborating with others, Dan & Elliot started to work with external designers. The first of whom was a friend from uni - Max Lamb, who designed the 'Deadgood Bookshelf'.
2006
Frustrated by the lack of opportunity for North East Designers, Dan & Elliot set up 'Launch', an annual exhibition that for three years promoted over thirty creatives to both local and national audiences, culminating in 2007 with their ten day occupation of the city's abandoned Fire Station.
2007
The original 'Love Collection' is launched, securing front page exposure and editorial coverage, increasing Deadgood's profile whilst also cementing Dan & Elliot's vision to utilise a network of British manufacturers.
2008
Dan establishes a permanent presence in the big city and is joined by product and graphic design intern, Vicki Leach who later became our first full time London employee.
2009
With a new product collection and an updated identity, we turned a Route Master Bus into a rolling exhibition and took part in the very first Clerkenwell Design Week - parking up outside Clerkenwell's established showrooms.
2010
Another university connection joins the family as we launch David Irwin's 'Working Girl Collection'.
2011
Followed swiftly the year after by renowned British designer Lee Broom, whose new collection 'Parq Life', joins the Deadgood roster.
2012
A number of new product launches and high profile project wins contribute to our growth, as we continue to challenge the pre-conceptions of what a commercial furniture brand should look like.
2013
With only a decade under our belt we beat stiff competition to win 'Company of the Year' at the Mixology North Awards ceremony, testament to the hard work and determintation of or entire team.
2014
Followed six months later with 'Manufacturer of the Year' at Mixology Awards in London. It takes ten years to become an overnight success!
2015
Our family of talented British designers grows as we welcome a lovely chap called John Tree into the Deadgood fold, with whom we develop the 'Tree Table'.
2016
Designers SmithMatthias joined next with their first Deadgood product - 'Marra' launched at DesignJunction.
2017
After years of exhibitions, trade fairs, pop-ups and shared spaces, we finally move into our own home in Clerkenwell at 46 Old Street.
2018
As we settle into our new London home, both projects and products continue to evolve as Deadgood starts to cement it's reputation as one of the 'go-to' brands within the UK comercial interiors sector.
2019
With plenty of time on their hands, our directors set about refining the Deadgood product collection and reinvigorating the creative vision for our company.
2020
We focusing on developing 'Sprung' and 'Flare', two products designed with the circular economy in mind, with components that can be easily seperated or removed for recycling or refurbishment.
2021
With new ways of working fast becoming entrenched in the modern workplace, we launched ReWork. The collection is 100% Made in Britain, utilises sustainably sourced timber, recyled steel and an innovative new foam made from plant-based compounds.
2022
Collaborating with commercial interior designers Trifle*, we launched a new look Clerkenwell showroom alongside a handful of new Deadgood products. Later in the year our 'DeadgoodRugs' brand was launched as a seperate entity.
2023
As we celebrate two decades in business we’re honoured to share that our small but significant company wins 'Product Design Company of the Year' at the FX International Design Awards.
